Summer Spotlight: 91 Days

91 Days is one of the most anticipated original anime coming out during the Summer 2016 season. The anime is set during prohibition era and showcases a story of revenge for a mafia killing. The show’s main character witnesses a murder and seeks out revenge for it 7 years later. I’ve always been extremely interested in mafia crime dramas and 91 Days looks to be another stellar entry to the genre.

During Prohibition, the law held no power and the mafia ruled the town.

The story takes place in Lawless, a town thriving on black market sales of illicitly brewed liquor. Avilio returns to Lawless after some time away, following the murder of his family in a mafia dispute there.

One day, Avilio receives a letter from a mysterious sender, prompting him to return to Lawless for revenge. He then infiltrates the Vanetti family, the ones responsible for his family’s murder, and sets about befriending the don’s son, Nero, to set his vengeance in motion.

Killing brings more killing, and revenge spawns more revenge. How will the 91-day story of these men guided by a tragic fate end?

I’ve already watched the first episode of 91 Days, and so far it’s just as good as was advertised. The first episode sets the premise of the show extremely quickly, and moves on to setup future conflicts and characters really well. The characters are already extremely interesting and there are already some future conflicts that are equally interesting. I’m excited to see where the show goes – this is definitely one anime to keep an eye on this 2016 Summer Season.

91 Days is available to stream this season on Crunchyroll.
